Building new traditions after divorce

On Campus

Unlike celebrity marriages such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s, most unions don’t end in “conscious uncoupling.”

To empower everyday families to build positive communication skills after a divorce or separation, OSU Extension Family and Consumer Sciences created the Successful Co-Parenting Program (SCP).

In November, SCP achieved Signature Program status – allowing it to expand to all 88 Ohio counties.

Led by Carmen Irving, an OSU Extension educator, the program’s curriculum helps co-parents minimize the negative effects of divorce on children. SCP also decreases the number of children referred to child protection agencies due to divorce conflicts.
