New findings by Carla Miller show that a workplace group intervention in diabetes management is more effective than solitary efforts.
Half the employees in the intervention met weekly to discuss weight loss strategies and exercise. They lost about 5.5 percent of their body weight over 16 weeks. Those in the control group, who received a booklet on self-regulated weight loss, lost less than 0.5 percent of their starting weight.
The intervention members also lowered their fasting glucose levels by more than double compared to the control group.
